Images from around

After the Storm

An early morning storm passed through the area before dawn. While I was pouring my coffee I noticed what appeared to be fog in the back yard but it was moving like a cloud. I ran up the hill to capture this image of the fog rising out of the forest.

Winter’s First Strike

Another image from Rollin’s Pond on Rt 129 in Gilmanton. Winter came a bit earlier than normal dropping it’s first warning shot on November 11th, before the ground froze and while we still had open water. Open water and snow can be magical in the right light,

First Snow on Rollin’s Pond

Two weeks after the “Winter’s First Strike” image was captured, on November 27, 2014 we experienced a snow squall that left the trees and landscape coated in white. Rollin’s Pond was started to freeze on and despite the clear, blue skies, I recall it being bone-chilling cold when I took this early morning shot.

Another November 27, 2014 shot from the northwest end of the pond.

Fog Ice on Trees

Sub-zero overnight temperatures pulled the remaining warmth from this mountain stream and deposited it as hoar ice on the surround trees.

Country Sunrise

Waiting for the sun to rise over the eastern hills as viewed from Stage Road. The Potter Farm livestock is seen grazing in the pasture’s morning light.

Winter on the Farm

New Hampshire is full of classic images that can bring you back in time with the blink of an eye.

Snow in Night Hawk Hollow

Stormy sunsets can almost always be interesting. Stormy winter sunsets are too. I was driving out Stage Road after a storm, in fact I think the plow was still on the truck, when I caught this scene out of the corner of my eye. I quickly pulled onto Stone Road, walked back with my camera in hand and caught this scene. It reminds me of an old Victorian painting.

Night Lines

There have been many nights over the years when I step out onto my deck and marvel at the moon rising through the forest. This February night had interesting cloud cover casting the forest into silhouette. It was just calling out for a black and white picture.

Clouds in the Ice

This roadside bog area always has the best reflections as we near sunset. This was taken the end of February, 2018 while in the midst of a late winter thaw.

The Melting

Late March melting on the north end of Crystal Lake.

Rollin’s Pond Thaw

Ice pulling away from the shore of Rollin’s Pond is a sure sign of winter’s passing.

A Spring Dusting

An early April snow shower dusted the forest around Rollin’s Pond. This is a black and white image that nearly mimics the color version exactly.

A Slice in Time

Meadow Pond’s thaw shows signs of starting as melt water puddles on the thinning ice in this early April 2018 sunset .

Spring Sunset on Meadow Pond

This is a long exposure image of an early April sunset whose colors light up the ice on Meadow Pond.

Last Sunset of 2018

As the sun was making it’s way to the horizon on December 31, 2018 I made my way up to the Foss Farm to capture the last daylight if the year.

Sunset on the Fire Tower

A mid-April weather report looked promising for an interesting sunset. The previous owner of this estate had given me free reign to photograph from the property but I hadn’t received permission from the new owners. So I stayed clear of the property line and caught this unusual sunset from behind the antique fire tower at the top of Frisky Hill.
