Sticks & Stones
The Schoodic Peninsula on Maine’s Downeast Coast was a relatively hidden gem for decades. It has long been one of my favorite spots to unwind and relax. There is nothing there but nature, beauty, and frequent fog.
Today, the Schoodic Peninsula has been annexed by the National Park System as part of Acadia National Park. It is about an hours drive north of Acadia and in recent years has seen more traffic because of it. There are no services here except for the NP campground and those offered in the small villages to the north of the park entrance. But, if you are looking for beauty and peace, it is worth the drive.
This image was taken on the eastern shore of the peninsula. While seeking out a composition in the late-day sun, I came across this tree that appears to have lost its battle with nature. It had taken root in a crack in the granite rock and grown about eighteen inches in height before giving in to natures battering.
