Nubble Lighthouse in Sea Smoke

It was so cold the Atlantic didn’t even want to move on the late December morning.  Know the cold air (-8°F) might create some ocean fog, more commonly referred to as “Sea Smoke,” I crawled out of bed at 3AM to make the hour long drive to the coast, more specifically, Cape Neddick, the home of Maine’s iconic Nubble Lighthouse.

This image was capture just as the sky was starting to lighten (nautical sunrise).  I found my shooting location and left my tripod in place as I, with camera in hand, retreated to the warmth of my truck.  Camera batteries do not like the cold, and it was cold! Thirty seconds of exposed finger tips resulted in numbness which turned to stinging needles of discomfort when they started warming up.
