Hendrick’s Head Beach

If you had the benefit of a lifetime for travel, and you spent that time on the coast of Maine, I am willing to bet, there are places you would miss. This beautiful beach scene is one you might easily miss due to its relatively remote location, despite being within a twenty-minute ride from a very popular village on the central Maine coast. The road is narrow and easily overlooked.

At the end of Hendricks Head Beach in Cozy Harbor sits the Hendricks Head Light Station which marks the mouth of the Sheepscott River. Originally built in 1829 as a rooftop tower on a granite stone keeper's house. In 1875 the original keepers dwelling and the lighthouse were replaced by the structure you see there today.

The current structure is now in private hands, though the US Coast Guard still maintains the light that has guided thousands of seafarers over the decades.
