Greater Egret with Open Wings

Scarborough Marsh, Maine

This Greater Egret was preparing to encroach on the hunting grounds of a much smaller Snowy Egret who appeared to be having great success catching it's breakfast.  I had been watching this Greater Egret's search for its breakfast for some time and hadn't seen it come up with anything in its beak.    In the end, moving into the pool the Snowy was in didn't seem to improve the Greater Egret's success rate.
