The Honorable Mention (2nd Place) was awarded to Sherwood Frazier of Laconia, NH for his black and white image of trees growing in a Florida wetland. The judges said they had a tough time deciding between the two images adding that the "Dead of Winter" told a clearer story. Personally, I like to tonality of Sherwood's entry. His image has a smooth, rich tonality whereas mine, due to the season and subject matter, has a harsher tone. Sherwood has his image posted on his Facebook page

First Place awarded in the Lakes Region Art Association’s 83rd Members Exhibit
I am honored to announce a first-place win in the 2023 Lakes Region Art Association’s 83rd Annual Members Exhibit in the Photography Division. My Print "Dead of Winter" is a panorama image of the Smith Meeting House Cemetery (Gilmanton, NH) during a January snowstorm.
The overcast sky and falling snow seemed to have sucked all the color out of the landscape resulting in a natural monochromatic image. I processed this as a color image, then made a copy and converted the copy to black and white. To give the image a cooler tone, I created a solid light blue layer and blended it in with 10% opacity. My final step was to bring the yellow patina on the centuries-old tombstone back into the image with a color mask.
The image is printed on 16 mil Epson Hot Press paper using a ten-color pigmented ink printer. I used acid-free matting, non-glare glass and a 1.25-inch wide box frame to finish this Fine Art Print.
